IBC 2024: LOGIC implements and manages Live Cloud Production Use Case at AWS booth (Hall 5.C90)

LOGIC media solutions, a leading provider of advanced broadcast and media technology, is announcing its role in a Broadcast and Live Production demonstration at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) booth (Hall 5.C90) during the IBC2024 trade show (13 – 16 September 2024). Demonstrating their industry-leading expertise, LOGIC is implementing a live case study based on an actual project with the European League of Football (ELF) to showcase the power and versatility of cloud-based production technologies using AWS and LOGIC’s PORTAL. The case study will be set up as a fully functional production system with live access to the AWS Cloud.

For the demonstration, AWS services form the infrastructure backbone, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), which supports productions in a reliable, scalable manner, and AWS Elemental MediaConnect to deliver the distribution signals. The system will also include LOGIC’s PORTAL and other tools by additional partners.

To realise this use case, LOGIC is implementing an end-to-end cloud setup based on the Vizrt Live Production Solutions, inter connected via NDI. Viz Vectar Plus (TriCaster® Vectar) will provide software-based video/audio switching, with the Viz Engine rendering graphics in real time. Virtual augmented reality (AR) will be supported by Viz Arena, while Viz 3Play® 3PV will guarantee replays and slow motion, allowing viewers to experience every moment of the game. The entire graphic solution is complemented by Netventure software developed specifically for the ELF.

After the produced content is created, Comprimato’s Live Transcoder software is used to convert the production signals from NDI to SRT, enhancing the flexibility and quality of live streams. The system's environmentally friendly GPU-powered video encoding and transcoding capabilities ensure efficient and high-quality broadcast outputs, meeting the rigorous demands of live sports coverage.

Furthermore, the integration of LiveU’s encoding solutions enables multi-camera live contribution, which has been instrumental in producing up to six live ELF matches per day during the current season. At IBC, this technology will be used to present live signals directly from the LiveU booth, demonstrating the real-time capabilities of cloud-based sports broadcasting.

In this case study, the PORTAL framework with its components PORTAL.connect, PORTAL.workstation and PORTAL.voice plays a pivotal role in orchestrating the entire cloud-based production setup. Acting as the central hub, PORTAL efficiently manages all Amazon EC2 instances, capacity reservations, and the deployment of critical tools such as Viz Now, which enables the automated, one-click creation of live production environments in the cloud. By seamlessly integrating various components—from video and audio switching to real-time graphics rendering—PORTAL ensures that the broadcast workflow is not only streamlined but also highly responsive to the dynamic demands of live sports production. This comprehensive management capability makes PORTAL an indispensable asset in delivering high-quality, scalable, and reliable broadcasts, as demonstrated in the European League of Football (ELF) case study at the IBC trade show.

A highlight of the presentation will be the debut of LOGIC’s advanced commentary solution, featuring the Portal.voice module and LAMA Automix software. This innovative system allows remote commentators from across the globe to participate in broadcasts with extremely low latency, ensuring seamless integration into live productions. The commentary panel, developed in collaboration with MakeProX, provides commentators with an intuitive, haptic interface that integrates directly into the production environment via NDI.

The ELF project at the IBC booth exemplifies the capabilities of cloud technology in live sports broadcasting. During the IBC event and with the set-up deployed by LOGIC, AWS will recreate a live match day scenario, showcasing how their advanced systems manage all aspects of live production, from seamless switching to immersive AR experiences. This case study will allow visitors to witness a realistic broadcast environment, highlighting the efficiency and quality achievable using AWS and LOGIC’s solutions.
